I am product lead for Elsevier’s altmetrics initiatives and the Scopus Author Feedback Wizard suite. Scopus is one of Elsevier’s fastest growing products. 88% of the world’s top ranked universities subscribe to Scopus and it is consistently rated easier to use and more innovative than its closest competitors.  Select projects:

Product Manager, Elsevier — 04/2008-07/2013 (Amsterdam, The Netherlands)
Product Manager for Scopus from 09/2009. As the lead for Scopus user-experience and tools initiatives, I worked closely with all parts of Elsevier’s matrixed business and technology organizations. Select projects:

  • Lead Scopus integration post-Mendeley acquisition (e.g. direct export & readership statistics) and contributed to acquisition including provision of product integration roadmaps; and relationship building activities
  • Product lead for internationalization (i18n) and Japanese localization (L10n) of Scopus from business case to go-to-market  (press release –  04/2013). Technically complex, year long, multi-vendor project met all KPIs including costs, timelines, usage, NPS, and revenues. Recruited new product manager for Chinese L10n including on the ground training through customer visits in China
  • Launched Analyze Results tool that is frequently named a favorite feature (01/2012) and Related Documents update that lead to ~35% increase in browsing between records (03/2012)
  • Launched Scopus Alerts mobile apps including company’s first Android and Blackberry apps and vendor’s first in-app payments (2011)
  • Drove Author Feedback Wizard from concept to launch (2010) leading shortly to 2x increase in user requests and doubling productivity of customer support
  • Integrated SciVerse Applications gadget framework in Scopus and collaborated with external developers on apps that enabled customization (2010-2012)

Product Manager for Collaboration Tools from 04/2008-09/2009

  • Successfully retired social bookmarking and reference-management application (2011)
  • “Find Reviewers” tool launched to all Elsevier editors (2010) based on one of below prototypes (used ~60k times per/year)
  • Created business case for new professional networking and expert profiling product based on: development and testing of functional prototypes, extensive market and pricing research, and competitive analysis; completed buy, build, or partner analysis that resulted in integration plans and negotiations with potential partner

  • Overhauled customer support workflow to minimize issue resolution time by streamlining ticket transfer between operators and optimizing the system for the transition to an outsourced support center

  • Conducted market research and usability studies on university students and public library customers
